3 TRX Exercises for Crunchy Shoulders

Snap, crackle, pop! Does your shoulder sound like one of Kellogg’s breakfast cereals, Rice Krispies? These are common symptoms of a shoulder condition known as crunchy shoulder. Excessive clicking, popping, grinding sensations within the shoulder could potentially come from a lack of stability and lack of thoracic mobility. One of our favorite ways to treat crunchy shoulders is by getting you moving! By implementing exercises that mobilize your thoracic spine while stabilizing the postural muscles & rotators cuff, we can improve the system as a whole and minimize those excessive crunches.
Check out three ways to use a TRX to improve thoracic mobility and shoulder stability:
Rows
Stand in a reverse plank, and pull the TRX straps towards you as you squeeze your shoulder blades together. The further you walk your feet out, the more challenging it will be! We love using these to alleviate tightness while practicing smoother movements within the joint!
Pushups
Start with your hands in the straps, facing away from the straps. Drop down into a pushup. Think about keeping your elbows at 45 degrees. This elevated push up improves control of the joint while reducing muscle imbalances. Watch crunching dissipate as you improve posture through strengthening surrounding muscles!
Thoracic Openers
Start with one hand in the straps, gradually open up through your upper back as you bring your opposite hand behind you. Rotate back to the start, then repeat. This exercise is a great way to promote thoracic flexibility while also releasing pent up tension!
