FIXX YOUR SHOULDER BLADE PAIN

FIXX Your Shoulder Blade Pain!

Dr. Ariel Edwards, PT, DPT, CSCS

If you’ve ever experienced that deep, nagging pain behind your shoulder blade, you know how frustrating it can be! This pain can stem from muscle tightness, trigger points, poor posture, or even nerve irritation, making it challenging to move comfortably or sit for a long period of time.

At Fixxed, we use techniques like dry needling and cupping as part of our approach to alleviate shoulder blade pain!

The shoulder blade, or scapula, is surrounded by muscles, tendons, and ligaments that support shoulder movement and upper back stability. Pain here is often caused by:

  • Trigger Points: These are tight knots in the muscles, especially the rhomboids, upper traps, or lats.

  • Muscle Imbalances or Overuse: Sitting hunched over, lifting weights with poor form, or repetitive motions can create tension behind the shoulder blade.

  • Postural issues: Pain behind the shoulder blade can be referred from the neck or thoracic spine! Improving mobility and stability in these areas can help decrease pain.

This pain can be challenging to treat because it often requires a mix of targeted interventions to release tension, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation.

Here are some of our favorites:

Dry needling involves using thin, sterile needles to target trigger points and release muscle tension. Dry needling focuses on directly impacting areas of dysfunction, making it ideal for relieving pain behind the shoulder blade.

Cupping is another powerful tool we use to help alleviate shoulder blade pain. Cupping therapy involves placing cups on the skin to create tension, which helps lift and separate the layers of fascia, muscle, and skin.

If you’re new to dry needling or cupping, here’s what to expect at Fixxed:

  • Assessment and Consultation: We’ll begin with an in-depth assessment to determine the root cause of your shoulder blade pain.

  • Customized Treatment Plan: Based on your needs, we’ll create a treatment plan that may include dry needling, cupping, or a combination of both.

  • Ongoing Support: Our goal is not only to relieve your current pain but to prevent it from returning. We’ll provide exercises, posture tips, and follow-up care to ensure lasting results!
