Why We Are A Cash-Based Studio

Why We Chose to Be Cash-Based!

By Kris Minear, L/PTA E-RYT 200

It may not sound like the most thrilling of cocktail-party conversation topics, but I get pretty passionate when someone asks me why we don’t take insurance.

As someone who has worked in multiple insurance-based PT clinics prior to working at FIXXED as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant specializing in Pelvic Floor PT, I understand why many companies choose to accept insurance. And I am so grateful that we aren’t one of them. Let me explain:

As a cash-based PT company, we can treat multiple diagnoses in a single session - meaning that if we are doing an evaluation for someone coming in with pelvic floor dysfunction, we aren’t going to ignore their additional complaints about a sore shoulder, tennis elbow, or plantar fasciitis - we treat the whole body. We don’t need to set up different PT appointments or waste time getting multiple referrals for different body parts. Particularly with pelvic floor clients, it is so rarely the case that we are dealing with just the dysfunction of the muscles inside the bowl of the pelvis. (The pelvic floor, like any other muscle group, doesn’t work in a vacuum.) Because pelvic floor symptoms are almost always related to muscle imbalances and compensation strategies elsewhere (aka, low back pain, hip tightness, glute weakness, ribcage flare, core weakness, tight shoulders, etc.) then being a cash-based PT company allows us to treat ALL of the issues, rather than be bound by insurance rules and regulations to just treat one diagnosis at a time.

Being cash-based also allows us to see clients quickly. Since I’ve been working at FIXXED, the longest wait time I’ve ever had to give a client between the time of our initial phone consultation and their first evaluation was 3 weeks - and that’s only happened once. We don’t believe that you need to wait months and months to be treated for your pelvic pain, incontinence, or any other musculoskeletal issue! You deserve to be evaluated and treated in a timely manner, especially so that problems don’t get worse as other body parts compensate for various pain, tightness, weakness, or injuries that are preventing you from being able to heal quickly and effectively.

We also take pride in addressing each of our client’s issues efficiently. We don’t see the purpose in scheduling someone for 12 PT sessions for 12 weeks just because an insurance company told us that that was the average amount of time it takes for someone to heal from that injury. In our minds, we see people, not ICD billing codes. Everyone is unique, and we create a custom program for each of our client’s needs. Some of our patients only need a few PT sessions to understand exactly which muscles are overworked/tight/weak/etc and the correct way to exercise and stretch to address those specific issues. We prefer to have the patient be a part of the decision-making process, rather than have an insurance company dictate how much PT a particular person needs without ever even seeing them.

If you’re looking for direct-access care to address your specific issues without long wait times, then get in touch with us! Book your free, 20-minute consultation with me here so we can discuss your symptoms and get you booked for your initial evaluation.
